Traditional Timber Sash Windows

One of the tallest and fastest wooden roller coasters ever is the Mean Streak. Built in the back of the park in 1991, the ride has a lift hill height of 163 feet and can reach speeds of sixty-five miles per hour. The 1.7 million board feet of lumber used to build this roller coaster is made from Southern yellow pine.

The timber we use is Southern Yellow Pine, grown in the southern states of America. It is the strongest of the softwood family. It grows straight and true and is practically knotless making it naturally more durable and good to work with.

The traditional sash windows that remain in this country today are in most cases... softwood! And they will be easily anywhere between 75-100 years + in age.

These original sash windows do not have the high tech preparation applied by ourselves (i.e. preservatives, factory finished paint system). As long as paint systems are refreshed there is no reason why our windows could be as durable as a hardwood window, if you are prepared to allow a wooden window to decay to the extent that you are relying on the structure of the wood then really wooden windows are not for you.

A hardwood window really comes into play if waxed or varnish is applied however to paint over the grain of a hardwood makes the sash window over specified and over complicated for the job in which its required. The customer will ultimately have to pay for this over detailing of a window design already proven to be more than durable for a length of time.
